Girls’ Volleyball at HTS is a HIT

The score is 24-21. The ball is served. After a perfect pass from a back row player, the setter sets the ball outside for the attacker, who sends it over the net into the other team’s court. The opposing team passes and sets the ball, but the hitter hits the ball into the outstretched hands of an HTS defender. The ball falls to the floor, and the whistle blows …
The crowd erupts into a thunderous cheer as the Holy Trinity Wildcats win again.
“The games were super fun to watch. It’s remarkable to see that much growth in just one season,” said Angie Kern, who with her husband, Nick, serve as the athletic directors for Holy Trinity Catholic School. “For the B team girls, from never playing to winning a bunch of games, and for the A team, they all grew into leaders since the majority of them were only seventh graders last year. Everyone chipped in, and everyone had a chance to get to the ball. The team dynamics were great.”
Beginning in fifth grade, students can sign up for the volleyball and basketball teams. HTS’ athletic programs are a great way for students to learn a sport and stay active. But, there are life lessons to be learned as well such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

“I never would have developed the passion or skill I have for the sport had I not joined the team,” said Brynn Evans, a member of the A team, “I love the way we all celebrate and grow together and do everything as a team, like a family.”
The volleyball season typically starts with practices in mid-August, and then games from September through October. The A team also competes in local tournaments. Registration for girls’ volleyball opens in July.
“I will always tell kids to just give it a shot.” Mrs. Kern added, “Most kids are unsure about it at first, and then they end up loving it.”
